About the Director

Shri Addanda C Cariappa, the director of Rangayana, Mysuru, the prestigious theatre organization run by Government of Karnataka was born and brought up in Kodagu, popularly known as the Kashmir of the south. He was born to the parents Addanda Changappa and Addanda Tangamma in the year 1961. He is a graduate in B.A. Having developed a deep interest towards theatre and literature in his early days he completed his theatre training in Ninasam theatre institute. He started his own repertoire theatre team, ‘Srushti Kodavaranga’ where in they performed plays in Kannada and Kodava Languages all over Karnataka. His directorial works include Macbeth, King Lear, Hamlet, Oedipus, Dangeya Munchina Dinagalu, Arundathi Aalaapa, Tabarana Kathe, Diwan Bhopanna, Amarkavi Acchappa, Miltrikara, Badak and many others. Shri Cariappa has written and published more than ten books in Kannada and Kodava language that include history books and plays. He has served as the president of Karnataka Kodava Sahitya Academy. His directorial feature film ‘Bal Polandath’ has received state award for best regional film. He is a recipient of Kendra Sahitya Academy’s `Bhasha Samman Award’ and Karnataka states prestigious ‘Kannada Rajyotsava Award’. Being the director of Mysore Rangayana he has succeeded in designing the mega project `PARVA-Maharangaprayoga’. He has written and directed the play ‘Halagali Samara’. Now he has written and directed `Tippu Nijakanasugalu’.
